Hello everyone,
It's your friendly grownish writer Alecia. I just realized that I haven't posted anything really explaining who I am or what I do. So this post will be about me, why I choose to start this blog and the podcast, and why I choose to become an author and journalist.
So where to begin, well let's see, I'm from the smallest province in Canada, otherwise known as Prince Edward Island. I come from an even smaller community on that island called Elmsdale. I was born and raised on the island until I was about 18 and a half. I decided to pack my bags and head to university in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to pursue a double major in Journalism and Creative Writing. I am currently in my second year at the University of King's College, and I absolutely love it.
I am the oldest of four kids in my family. I have two amazing brothers and a brilliant little sister who likes to raid my closet when I am not home during the school year. I have two amazing parents, my mom and my dad, who both work extremely hard to support me while I pursue my post secondary education as well as being my biggest supporters.
I have always had a passion for reading and writing from an early age. My first attempts at writing novels or short stories came from my French teachers in my elementary school; they would make us write these grueling journals almost every day. My first stories were mostly about my eldest younger brother and me. I would mostly write about mine and his adventures in our fort that we had made under the spruce trees in our year, or I would write fanfiction in a sense about Scooby Doo and the gang. But as I grew older, I started working on more serious works such as my series the legend of Krad, the chronicles of Eviva and the Tales of the lost islands in about grade 6, but as I grew older, I started redrafting them and making them better. My later school years involved me focusing more on my writing skills and taking a whole class on how to write essays in grade ten from taking a creative writing class in grade 12. My teachers were some of my biggest supporters throughout this time, causing me to really focus on what I was going to do with my future in writing. I remember my grade 9 English teacher Mrs. Murphy said I would someday publish a novel if I kept it up; the wise words of my high school teachers and councilors such as Mrs. Melanson-Gavin, Mrs. LeClair, Mrs. Doucette and many more each offering me kind words of encouragement as I made my way top post-secondary to study journalism and creative writing.
I choose to start this blog while chatting with some of my friends over the summer months and figuring out that I genuinely had a passion for sharing what I do with others and the podcast came as a product of me starting this blog. Some people prefer reading posts and interviews and things, while others tend to love to listen to a podcast. So with a little encouragement from my friends, peers, professors, family, and boyfriend, the Grownish Writer and the Grownish Podcast came into being.
I hope to share more in the future, and I hope you guys find this as sort of hello, this is who I am type post other than me just spilling my life story onto a blog post.
Well, keep writing my little grownish people,
Alecia Gallant
