Tips & Tricks page focuses this time on writing Villains. This week we decided as a team to present whoo write the perfect villain in a way that captivates readers. We drew inspiration for these tips by watching various movies, reading a variety of books and looking through even some of our own works. So this week we present to you tips and tricks on how to create the perfect villain.

  • Treat your villain like the backbone of your story. They are the reason for the conflict, they are the reason the Protagonist or Hero are doing what they do. Treat them like they are the main plot point.

  • Try choosing a different type of villain. Don't always make them the common bad guy you find in other novels try something new. Perhaps making them a morally grey villain. Someone who does too much bad to be a good person, but does too much good to be a bad person. Or if you want a more interesting villain to try an Anti-Villain type. This type of Villain does bad things to achieve the goal that they believe is good.

  • MAKE THEM STAND OUT!! you don't want a bland villain that would make the story dull and boring to many of your readers. Shine the spotlight on them, make their performance something to remember, make it grand, dramatic and terrifying.

  • Make sure your villain has a drive and purpose. Make them have a goal and write about the things they are doing to achieve that goal. World Domination sounds great when it is well written and planned out.

  • Give them a fatal flaw. Something that can completely undo them and make it something they can never recover from. Make sure your protagonist figures out what this flaw is so that they may use it against the villain.
