Time to dust off those old notebooks and grab a pencil for this week's writing prompts. This month we dive into thinking about why we write and how we can improve as writers. Some of us are probably already well-established writers, and others are just starting this amazing journey. No matter what your case is, we are here to help you along the way. So sit back, grab your cup of coffee and start taking notes.

Six Questions to ask yourself about your writing:

  • The first question you need to ask yourself when thinking about writing is Why do you write? For example, do you write because it expresses your feelings, or do you write because you want to share your opinion on something?

  • The second question you need to ask yourself is how do you connect with your writing? Looking at how your characters possibly resemble you are someone you know? Or does the setting take place in a similar place that you visit every day?

  • Think about how much of your personal life do you put into your stories? Do you use the same setting a lot? Does your character have the same job as you? Really try to figure out what aspects of your personal life are in your works.

  • Think about who your target audience is? For example, are you writing for Young Adults, Children or Adults? Are you targeting a certain fanbase and trying to get them to explore your novel because it somehow mirrors what they are used to reading?

  • Find your voice in your writing!! Try to find that one thing that makes your writing unique, and that is your voice? Then, use it to enthral your readers and capture the attention of publishers.

  • Think about the purposes of writing. For example, the most popular purposes being to inform, entertain, explain, or persuade.
