Time to dust off those old notebooks and grab a pencil for this week's writing prompts. So sit back, grab your cup of coffee and start taking notes. This week's prompts are based on the fall season.

This month instead of writing prompts, we offer you a contest and a chance to be a featured writer here on the blog. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. The contest will open on October 14th @ 8:00 am and close on October 31st @ 11:59 am. The rules are simple you must submit original work, either a short story or poem. The short story must be between 2500 and 3000 words, and the poem cannot exceed 26 lines (including stanza breaks) and cannot exceed 55 characters per line (including spaces between words). You are only allowed to submit original work for the contest. All submissions can be emailed to somewhatgrownupish@gmail.com.Contestants will be notified by email when the winners are chosen.

The contest is to create a short story or poem using one of the three prompts given below.

  • A Halloween pumpkin or scarecrow coming alive

Remember to be creative and give it your best shot.
