For this week's writing prompts, I decided to turn to dialogue prompts. Sometimes a simple phrase or line can spark an idea for a whole story. I know it did for me. The line that inspired my entire novel series I am working on in my spare time was, "You ruined me, you ruined everything I loved. And now you'll watch as I set your world on fire."

That simple phrase inspired an entire series for me, and I created the character you spoke that line and the backstory behind it. Now I have put around 10 dialogue prompts for you, my fellow writers, to create a story, use it as inspiration for a scene, or use it as you see fit.

10 Dialogue prompts

  1. "Hang on. Where's the baby?"

  2. "What do you mean that could have been worse? You got shot!"

  3. "Who the hell gives up a scholarship to Yale for that?"

  4. "You once told me to be the hero, but you forgot to mention that being the villain is so much better."

  5. "You bastard, who dare you try and murder my cat with a pillow."

  6. "Good heart, bad temper."

  7. "Burn it all."

  8. "I'm not afraid to die, but I am terrified to lose you."

  9. "How much of that did you hear?"

  10. "Why does it always have to be me?"
